Acoustic Based Localization of Partial Discharge Inside Oil-Filled Transformers

This paper addresses the localization of Partial Discharge through a 3D Finite Element Method analysis acoustic wave propagation inside 3-phase 35kV transformer with help COMSOL Multiphysics software. Due to complexity transformers, waves generated by PDs cannot simply be detected typical sensors, especially when happen inner windings. These are distorted and attenuated along their propagation. The type, number, position sensors essential factors in PD transformer. A new installation arrangement fiber-optic transformers is proposed this information. array has significant effects on accuracy immunity from on-site noise interference; more importantly, they can installed after manufacturing. They reachable if needed repaired or replaced. Several numerical studies have been carried out considering different source positions, Levenberge-Marquardt algorithm employed for solving equations.
